Sporting dogs are naturally active and alert. They make exceptional, well-rounded companions. The Sporting Group includes Pointers, Retrievers, Setters and Spaniels. These dogs are best known for their incredible instincts in water and woods; many of these breeds actively continue to participate in hunting and other field activities. Sporting dogs require regular, intense exercise, which should be considered seriously by any potential owner of a dog in the group.

One of the most well known painters of the Sporting group is Percival Leonard Rosseau. Rosseau was a prolific painter as well as an accomplished breeder. He captured Sporting dogs in such great detail and with perfect accuracy because he actually trained his champion dogs to pose for him to up to three hours at a time. |
One of his most glorious works is of his beloved Leda — and it is simply entitled Leda. She was a champion Pointer and an active hunter, a prime example of a prize Sporting dog. Harry T. Peters, Jr. gifted this painting to the American Kennel Club. |
